Bonnie on her Wonder Horse
|
Bonnie’s connection with horses began soon after she
started walking. While she rode for hours on her Wonder Horse,
she dreamed of riding a real one. On some unconscious level she may
have known horses connected her to her life’s path.
A special memory is her first solo ride on her
friend’s pony Black Magic, when she was four. By the age of 7 she
was given her first horse. Her Dad traded a Labrador puppy for a 20
year old mare who was on her way to the “glue factory”. She named
her horse Lou after Louisiana, the state she was born in.
Bonnie had a strong connection with her horse. Almost every day she
would walk to a pasture a half a mile away from her house to ride
Lou. She was too short to reach to put the bridle on, so Lou would
lower her head. A bareback pad with wooden stirrups was the extent
of her tack collection.

"Lou"

Helmets were nowhere in sight. Mounting blocks took the form of
propane tanks. Her parents trusted Lou implicitly. Bonnie now
believes horses played an important role in her upbringing. More of
her childhood was spent with horses than with people. Being alone in
nature with them provided a form of healing solitude. With the
horses she felt loved and safe.
Two
years later Bonnie’s parents divorced and her heart was broken when
she had to move far away from Lou. Her new home in a suburban
neighborhood was luckily close to a few horse pastures. Bonnie went
door to door asking the owners if she could ride their horses.
Several of them agreed and she was able to continue riding. The
borrowed horses were instrumental in helping
her cope with the family break up and leaving her own horse behind.
Another saving grace was studying alternative spiritual beliefs. She
was already familiar with several traditional Western systems;
Episcopal, Methodist and Unitarian. She wanted a broader view so
began investigating alternatives.

During the summer when Bonnie was eleven she participated in English
riding lessons, as well as learning to run barrels and poles. She
entered in the local horse shows and State Fair. Even though she won
ribbons and trophies, she realized that the competitive side of the
horse world was not for her.
As
with many girls during their teens and early twenties, horses faded
into the background. Bonnie completed college, married, gave birth
to her daughter, and eventually divorced. Raising her daughter as a
single mom and working as a mechanical engineer in the computer
industry consumed most of her time for 18 years. She continued
however, with her spiritual studies investigating
Buddhism, Christianity, Hindu, Native North American Indian, I AM,
Tai Chi, Karate, and Yoga. A strong desire to help others led her to
participate in,
co-facilitate, and host workshops that focused on realizing our full
potential as humans and how to do more than merely survive.
In
1999, horses returned to Bonnie’s life. Her love for horses and
commitment to self exploration and integration of mind, heart, and
soul merged. The result for her was a life altering discovery. These
sentient beings, for which she has such great respect, possess a
natural gift that can help humans heal. Horses supported her
emotionally and spiritually from childhood to adulthood, and she
wants to share that potential with others. Utilizing her training as
a facilitator, combined with her empathic and intuitive abilities,
Bonnie partners with her four horses and acts as a guide for others
to awaken their inner gifts and heal wounds from the past.
The creation of Horse’s Way Equestrian
Arts brought forth her fascination with mind-heart
connection and the healing power of horses. She invites you to
participate in a unique process of Equine Facilitated Learning that
reveals and revives your authentic expression and guides you to the
Heart of your Soul’s purpose.
“Bonnie’s
creativity and compassion as a facilitator make her an exemplary
representative of the Epona approach. I’m continually inspired by
her innovative work with horses and humans, and I’m honored to be
associated with someone who truly lives the art of interspecies
communications.”
